Quinn Booker is a dedicated Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), where he has cultivated a strong foundation in STEM through hands-on experience and innovative projects. As the Co-Founder and Electronics Lead of the HAVOC (High Altitude Visual Orientation Control) team, Quinn plays a pivotal role in advancing aerospace technology. The HAVOC team is focused on stabilizing high-altitude balloon payloads using cold-gas thrusters, addressing the inherent instability of balloon flights at high altitudes. This project not only enhances the reliability of atmospheric studies but also contributes valuable data for various scientific applications.
Under Quinn's leadership, HAVOC achieved significant recognition, winning first place in the 2020 VBS Undergraduate Poster Competition, a testament to the team's innovative approach and technical expertise. His proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Autodesk Inventor has been instrumental in designing and prototyping the thruster systems, while his skills in project management and planning ensure that the team stays on track and meets critical milestones. Additionally, Quinn's experience with MATLAB allows for sophisticated simulations and data analysis, which are crucial for optimizing the performance of the payload stabilization system.
Quinn is eager to further his knowledge and skills through a summer internship with a manufacturing or engineering firm, where he can apply his technical acumen and leadership abilities in a real-world setting. His commitment to learning by doing, combined with his hands-on experience in electronics and project planning, positions him as a promising candidate ready to contribute to cutting-edge engineering projects.
