Prof. Dr. S. Ramakrishnan is a distinguished academic and researcher at Anna University, Chennai, where he serves as the Ph.D. and M.S. Programs Supervisor in the Department of Civil Engineering. With a robust educational background and extensive training in cartography and water resource planning, he brings a wealth of expertise to his role. His notable training at the University of Hanover, Germany, in 1995, and a specialized course on "Planning of Water Resources" in 1998, have equipped him with critical insights into sustainable practices in civil engineering and environmental management.
Currently, Prof. Dr. Ramakrishnan is supervising ten ongoing Ph.D. candidates, guiding them through their research in areas such as GIS, spatial analysis, and geomatics. His supervision has led to the successful completion of three Ph.D. candidates, reflecting his commitment to fostering academic excellence. Additionally, he has overseen three completed M.S. programs, although no current M.S. candidates are under his supervision. His research interests are deeply intertwined with advanced technologies, including LiDAR, ERDAS Imagine, and image processing, which he integrates into his teaching and mentoring.
Prof. Dr. Ramakrishnan's involvement in the desertification program (TPN-1 UNCCD) underscores his dedication to addressing global environmental challenges. His expertise in cartography and surveying not only enhances his research but also contributes to the broader academic community at Anna University. By bridging theoretical knowledge with practical applications, he plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of civil engineers equipped to tackle pressing issues in water resources and environmental sustainability.
