As the Director of Career and Workforce Readiness at the Niswonger Foundation, I am dedicated to bridging the gap between education and employment for young people in Northeast Tennessee. My journey began with a dual degree in Economics and Public Health from Tulane University, followed by an MBA from East Tennessee State University. This unique blend of education equips me with a comprehensive understanding of both the economic and health-related factors that influence workforce development.
In my current role, I lead the CareerConnect program, which is designed to provide high school students with the skills and experiences necessary to thrive in today’s competitive job market. This initiative emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world applications, connecting students with local businesses and industry leaders. Additionally, I manage the Work Ethic Diploma/Distinction (WED) initiative, a groundbreaking program that empowers high school seniors across Tennessee to earn a credential that signifies their readiness for the workforce. The WED program encompasses a series of rigorous standards, focusing on essential soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, which are critical for success in any career.
My expertise in community outreach and public speaking allows me to effectively engage with students, educators, and employers alike, fostering partnerships that enhance career readiness. I am also proficient in utilizing various software tools, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, to analyze data and present impactful findings that drive our initiatives forward. Through these efforts, I am committed to ensuring that the youth of Northeast Tennessee are not only prepared for their future careers but are also equipped to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
