Johan Badenhorst serves as the Director of Operational Technology Systems at LUMA Energy, where he plays a pivotal role in driving the modernization of operational technology within the organization. With over 30 years of international experience in regulated utilities, Johan is a seasoned expert in IT and OT convergence, specializing in the architecture and design of integrated systems that enhance operational efficiency and security. His current focus includes leading critical projects such as the replacement of the Energy Management System (EMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, as well as the deployment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) for 2.5 million customers.
Johan's expertise extends to Distribution Automation (DA) and Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), where he leverages his deep understanding of technology to ensure seamless integration and operational excellence. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and evaluation member for Transport Network deployment, Cybersecurity, and Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) deployment, he is instrumental in shaping LUMA's strategic direction in these areas. His responsibilities also encompass the ongoing software lifecycle management of critical operational applications such as Outage Management Systems (OMS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and the PI System, ensuring they remain robust and effective in supporting the organization’s goals.
