Holly Pickett is a seasoned photojournalist with a rich tapestry of experiences that spans continents and cultures. Currently based in New York City, Holly has carved out a niche for herself at Holly Pickett Photography, where she combines her expertise in documentary photography with a deep commitment to storytelling. Her journey began as a staff photographer at the Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Washington, but her passion for capturing the human experience led her to relocate to Cairo, Egypt, in 2008. Since then, she has documented critical news and feature stories across the Middle East, Central Asia, and Europe, including conflict zones in Afghanistan, Libya, and Iraq, as well as the humanitarian crises in Yemen and Syria.
Holly's work is characterized by her ability to convey powerful narratives through her lens, often focusing on marginalized communities and the complexities of their lives. One of her key projects, supported by a Pulitzer Travel Grant in 2014, involved a poignant series on Syrian refugees navigating their new realities in Greece and Germany. This project not only showcased her skills in editorial photography but also highlighted her proficiency in video editing and image editing, utilizing tools like Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro to enhance her storytelling.
Her diverse portfolio reflects a mastery of both documentary and feature photography, allowing her to create compelling visual narratives that resonate with audiences worldwide. With a keen eye for detail and a profound understanding of the socio-political landscapes she covers, Holly continues to push the boundaries of photojournalism, making significant contributions to publications and raising awareness about pressing global issues.
