Caroline M. Wu is currently making significant strides in her role as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Curtis National Hand Center at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, where she works under the guidance of Principal Investigator Dr. Avi Giladi. Caroline is deeply involved in establishing a comprehensive retrospective database focused on patients with upper extremity firearm injuries. This critical project aims to characterize the epidemiology of such injuries by meticulously analyzing a range of factors, including demographics, injury characteristics, timing of injury and presentation, treatment modalities, patient disposition, and psychosocial and occupational variables.
Her work not only contributes to the understanding of firearm injuries but also assesses surgical outcomes, specifically evaluating sensory and functional recovery in patients. This multifaceted approach allows Caroline to apply her strong research skills and statistical analysis capabilities, utilizing tools such as MATLAB to derive meaningful insights from complex data sets.
