Anne Thompson is a dynamic visual artist and curator, currently serving as the Director and Curator of the Suzanne Lemberg Usdan Gallery at Bennington College. In this inaugural role, she has been instrumental in shaping the gallery's contemporary programming, which not only highlights the diversity of artistic expression but also honors the College's rich legacy in the visual and performing arts. Anne's hybrid practice, which seamlessly integrates visual arts, writing, and curating, allows her to approach each exhibition with a unique perspective that fosters dialogue and engagement within the community.
Under her leadership, the Usdan Gallery has hosted a series of thought-provoking exhibitions that challenge conventional narratives and explore pressing social issues. Notable projects include a comprehensive survey of Lisa Anne Auerbach's work, which delved into themes of identity and activism, and "Patricia Johanson: House and Garden," a project that examined the intersection of art and environmentalism. Additionally, her curatorial collaboration on "Queer Paranormal," which focused on Shirley Jackson's influential work, showcased her commitment to exploring the complexities of identity and storytelling within contemporary art.
Anne's expertise in fine art and contemporary art is further exemplified through her founding of the I-70 Sign Show, a billboard exhibition that promotes regional artists and engages the public in a dialogue about art in everyday spaces. Her keen eye for curation and her dedication to fostering an inclusive artistic environment make her a vital force in the art community, as she continues to push boundaries and inspire both students and audiences alike at Bennington College.
