Julie Alexander is a dedicated advocate for equity and inclusion in higher education, currently serving as the Director of Accessibility & Disability Services at Ferris State University. With a strong foundation in psychology and professional counseling from Central Michigan University, Julie has spent over a decade working closely with students to ensure they receive the support and accommodations necessary for their academic success. Her role is pivotal in fostering an inclusive environment where students with disabilities can thrive, as she collaborates with faculty, staff, and administration to address and resolve issues of inaccessibility.
At Ferris State University, Julie leads a dynamic team of four professionals, including two counselors and a secretary, all committed to enhancing the educational experience for students with disabilities. Her leadership is characterized by a proactive approach to problem-solving, utilizing her expertise in mental health counseling and educational counseling to develop tailored strategies that meet the diverse needs of students. Key projects under her direction include the implementation of innovative accessibility initiatives, workshops on disability awareness for faculty, and the enhancement of digital resources to ensure all students can engage fully with their education.
