Matthew Wasson has been a pivotal force at Appalachian Voices since 2001, where he currently serves as the Director of Programs. In this role, he articulates a long-range vision that guides the organization’s multifaceted initiatives aimed at addressing the pressing environmental challenges faced by the Central and Southern Appalachian region. Under his leadership, Appalachian Voices has developed a robust framework for community outreach and engagement, fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders to promote sustainable practices and enhance environmental awareness.
Matt oversees a dedicated team of 15 program staff, each focused on critical areas such as water quality protection, climate change mitigation, and ecological restoration. His expertise in grant writing and non-profit administration has been instrumental in securing funding for key projects that drive the organization’s mission forward. Notably, he has spearheaded initiatives that leverage Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze environmental data, enabling informed decision-making and effective resource allocation.
