As a Public Service Fellow at the City of Cleveland - City Hall, Akshay Kalra is at the forefront of community engagement and urban development initiatives. Currently in his fourth year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he studies Community and Nonprofit Leadership and Political Science, Akshay leverages his academic background and practical experiences to drive impactful projects within the city. His role involves planning and executing community engagement events that not only foster public participation but also amplify the voices of underrepresented communities.
One of Akshay's key projects includes supporting the launch of several Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) aimed at revitalizing underutilized city-owned assets. This involves extensive collaboration with critical stakeholders, including the City Planning Commission and the Law Department, to ensure that community needs are met while adhering to legal frameworks. Akshay excels in building and maintaining relationships with Councilmembers and Community Development Corporations (CDCs), which is essential for creating a cohesive approach to urban development.
His skill set is diverse, encompassing research skills, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and strong communication abilities, which enable him to present complex information clearly and effectively.
