Lo Kartzman is a dedicated Science and Woodshop Specialist at Manhattan Country School, where he leverages his extensive background in education to foster a dynamic and engaging learning environment for students. With a Master’s degree in General Education and Museum Education from Bank Street College, Lo is well-equipped to integrate interdisciplinary arts education with a strong emphasis on sustainability and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) principles. His teaching philosophy centers around place-based learning, which encourages students to connect their educational experiences to the world around them, enhancing their understanding of both science and craftsmanship.
In his current role, Lo leads science classes for 8/9s and 9/10s, where he emphasizes hands-on experimentation and inquiry-based learning. This approach not only ignites students' curiosity but also cultivates critical thinking skills essential for their academic growth. Additionally, he conducts Woodshop classes for 5th and 6th graders, where students engage in practical projects that blend creativity with technical skills. These classes not only teach students about woodworking techniques but also instill a sense of responsibility and sustainability as they learn to work with natural materials.
Lo's expertise extends beyond the classroom; he actively engages students and families in educational activities that bridge the gap between school and community. His skills in financial accounting, inventory management, and marketing enable him to effectively manage resources and promote educational initiatives that enhance the learning experience. With a passion for creating meaningful educational experiences, Lo Kartzman is committed to inspiring the next generation of learners through innovative and engaging science and woodshop programs.
