Joey Hernandez is a dedicated and versatile timpanist currently making significant contributions to the Tulare County Symphony, where he brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role. In addition to his primary performance opportunity with the symphony, Joey oversees the Applied Lessons for Percussion at the College of the Sequoias, where he is committed to nurturing the next generation of percussionists. His teaching philosophy emphasizes a strong foundation in music theory and technique, ensuring that his students are well-prepared for both classical and contemporary performance settings.
Joey's recent collaboration with Patriot Brass/Pepsi, facilitated by Elisha Wilson, highlights his adaptability and commitment to expanding his musical horizons. His extensive background includes a support role and music consultancy with Golden West High School's drumline since September 2013, where he has worked closely with directors Alan McFarlane and Craig Cory to develop innovative percussion programs. This experience has allowed him to refine his skills in orchestral music and musical theatre, as he has played percussion for over 100 amateur and professional productions throughout his 20-year career.
Prior to 2005, Joey served as a section player and co-principal timpanist, further solidifying his reputation as a skilled musician within the orchestral community. His proficiency in classical multi-percussion setups and diverse musical styles makes him a sought-after collaborator in both educational and performance contexts. With a strong focus on music education and a passion for the arts, Joey Hernandez continues to inspire and elevate the musical landscape in Tulare County and beyond.
