Alex Bledsoe, as Co-Founder of Breaktide Productions, is at the forefront of a transformative movement in the film industry, where the focus is on amplifying underrepresented voices and democratizing the filmmaking process. With a robust background in video production and policy analysis, Alex is dedicated to creating impactful narratives that address systemic issues, particularly those affecting marginalized communities. Currently, Alex is immersed in the production of their debut documentary feature, OAKLEAD, which explores the racialized lead poisoning crisis in Oakland. This project not only highlights a pressing public health issue but also serves as a critical examination of environmental racism and its disproportionate impact on Black communities.
As a fellow in the prestigious Sundance Finance and Strategy Intensive, Alex is honing their skills in strategic storytelling and financial acumen, ensuring that OAKLEAD resonates with audiences while securing the necessary resources for its completion. At Breaktide Productions, Alex leads key projects that encompass a full spectrum of film production services, from story and script development to cinematography and community outreach. Their expertise in social media outreach and research further enhances the company’s mission to engage audiences and foster dialogue around social justice issues.
With proficiency in Egyptian Arabic and a strong foundation in political science, Alex is uniquely positioned to navigate the complexities of storytelling in a global context. Their commitment to dismantling exploitative systems through art and advocacy is not only reflected in their work but also in the collaborative environment they cultivate at Breaktide Productions, where women of color lead the charge in reshaping the narrative landscape.
