In 1966, Nancy made the decision to join the Adrian Dominican Sisters in Michigan, where she took the religious name “Sister Rose Martin.” She spent several years studying and training within the sisterhood, eventually earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Siena Heights College. After completing her studies, Nancy felt compelled to embark on a missionary journey and was assigned to serve in Peru. While in Peru, she dedicated herself to social justice work, education, and community development projects.
Nancy’s experiences in Peru deeply impacted her and ignited a passion for advocacy and outreach. She returned to the United States with a renewed sense of purpose and a drive to make a difference in the world. She continued her studies, earning a Master’s degree in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University in Chicago.
In 1987, Nancy’s life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). The diagnosis was a significant hurdle for her, but she faced it with a steadfast determination and unwavering faith. Despite the challenges of living with a chronic illness, Nancy persisted in her mission to serve others and remained committed to her religious vocation.
Throughout her life, Nancy has used her platform as a nun to advocate for various social causes, including healthcare, education, and the rights of people with disabilities. She has spoken at numerous conferences and events, sharing her story and insights on faith, perseverance, and the importance of compassion and empathy.
